Creating a "turtle-friendly" yard:
How to create a safe environment for your local box turtles & attract other wildlife, such as butterflies and birds!
Scan your lawn for turtles before mowing.

Turtles use open areas for basking and nesting.

Also check dense vegetation before trimming.

Grow native plants!
This will:

Attract other wildlife, such as pollinators.

Provide food and shelter for box turtles.
Leave leaf litter, natural debris, and low vegetation.

Box turtles use these items for shelter and moisture.
They can rest, travel, and breed here.

Provide a ground-level water feature

A shallow water feature, like a creek or small pond in a shaded area will allow box turtles to take a dip when the weather is dry.
